Box Score SALISBURY, NC- Despite four goals by Gracie Herbert the Pfeiffer women's lacrosse team (4-10) dropped a 12-11 overtime heartbreaker to Catawba (6-8) on Wednesday night. Cassidy Wilson recorded 16 saves on 33 shots.
The Indians scored the first four goals to start the game. The Falcons responded with two unanswered goals. Herbert struck first with an unassisted goal at the 15:39 mark. About a minute later Molly O'Friel scored on a free position shot. With 55 seconds left in the first half Kim Ramirez found the back of the net cutting the Catawba lead to 7-5.
Herbert scored two unassisted goals within 30 seconds of each other tying the game 7-7 to start the second half. The Indians struck again three minutes later retaking the lead. At the ten minute mark Cheyenne Green took a feed from Whitney Jaffe and scored the go ahead goal. It was Pfeiffer's first lead of the contest 10-9. With the game tied at 10-10 Ramirez found the back of the net for the second time giving Pfeiffer an 11-10 advantage with 8:26 left. Catawba scored the equalizer with 5:05 forcing overtime.
Catawba's Alyssa Corace scored her first goal of the contest with 34 seconds left in the overtime period giving the Indians their sixth win of the season. The loss tonight was the fourth time this season that the Falcons have lost by one goal.
Jaffe scored one goal and dished out four assists for the Falcons. O'Friel scored two goals while scooping up four ground balls, and Green recorded two goals and caused two turnovers. The Falcons held a slight advantage in draw controls winning 13 compared to 12 for Catawba, and were 2-for-6 on free position shots.
The Falcons return to action on Monday, April 18, as they travel to Converse. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
