MISENHEIMER, N.C.- The Pfeiffer Falcons (17-25) dropped a high-scoring affair to the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears(29-13) on Tuesday night at Joe Ferebee Field, 11-9 as Xavier Rodriguez led all Falcons with four hits, two RBI, scored two runs and added a walk.
Falcon starter Drew Wilson went through the Bears line-up once, but in the top of the fourth the Bears scored six off Pfeiffer lefty as it was highlighted by a Colby Dishmond homerun and a RBI double from Zach Shoemaker.
In the bottom of the fourth, Jordan Eckard walked and then advanced to second base on a wild pitch. That allowed Rodriquez to single in Eckard for Pfeiffer's first run.
Ryan Perkins added a two homerun off reliever Zach Huneycutt with one out in the top of the 6th.
The Falcons answered the Bears run in the bottom of the sixth with two of their own as Cody McKenzie led off with a hard hit ball to the Bear shortstop but Matthew De La Rosa shortstop. Next batter, Rodriquez walked. Chaston Gordon hit a long fly ball to center to score McKenzie. Next batter, Derek Perry singled in Rodriquez and cut the lead to 8-3.
Pfeiffer added four more runs in the top of the seventh. Anthony Allende and Tanner Mathis walked to start of the rally. Eckard added a single that scored Allende. Next batter, McKenzie and Rodriguez back-to-back RBI singles. The Falcons added one more run as John Elwood on sacrifice fly that brought in McKenzie from third.
In the top of the eighth, David Newcomer doubled down the right field line off Hunter Jobe. Next batter, Josh Kent added a pinch walk and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Chase Hathcock. Perkins added two more runs as he singled up the middle to make the score, 10-7.
In the bottom half of the eight, Falcon first baseman Allende homered to center for a 10-8 score.
Lenoir-Rhyne added another run in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch from Craig Jacobelli to score De La Rosa
The Falcons in their last at bat did not go away quietly as Rodriguez singled for his fourth hit of the game. Next batter, pinch hitter, Kirby Lambert singled to center as Rodriquez advanced to third on the throw and scored as the ball went by third baseman Newcomer. Tad Radliff was able to pick up the save as she struck out Ryne Stanley and induced Derek Perry to ground out.
The Falcons return to action on Friday as they start a three game series with the King Tornado. Friday's game is set for 3:30 p.m in Bristol.
