BRISTOL, TN- On Friday afternoon the Pfeiffer baseball team (18-25, 10-12 CC) opened up a three game series against King (14-28, 7-15 CC) with huge Conference Carolinas Tournament implications. The Falcons used a five run eighth inning to lift them to a game one 9-6 victory. Zach Scudder went 3-for-4 on the day scoring two runs for the Falcons.
Pfeiffer opened up the contest with four consecutive hits, Derek Perry led off the inning with a single, which was followed up with a Damon Smith double down the right field line. Anthony Allende drove in two, with a RBI single up the middle scoring Perry, and Smith from second. The Tornado cut the Falcon lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning when Preston Douglas singled home J.P. Castaneda from second base. King tacked on three more runs in the fourth to take their first lead of the ball game 4-2.
Entering the eighth inning Pfeiffer trailed 5-4. Scudder started the rally off with a one out base knock to centerfield. With runners on first and second Jordan Eckard hit a ground ball that the shortstop misplayed allowing Scudder to score from second. Cody McKenzie drove in his second run of the game with a double to right field giving the Falcons a 6-5 lead. McKenzie scored on a pinch hit single by Kirby Lambert. The highlight of the inning was a two run RBI triple by Ryne Stanley. The Falcons closed out the inning with a Perry RBI single giving the Falcons a 9-5 advantage.
Hunter Jobe picked up his first win of the season throwing 1.2 innings in relief and Ethan Greene worked a scoreless ninth for his third save of the year.
Perry, McKenzie and Eckard recorded two hits apiece and drove in a combined six runs for the Falcons.
Pfeiffer will close out the series with a double header tomorrow against King. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
