Box Score FLORENCE, SC- The Pfeiffer baseball team (19-27) scored seven runs on 11 hits in a losing effort to Francis Marion (24-19) on Tuesday night. The Patriots pounded out 25 hits and scored 19 runs. Tanner Mathis went two-for-three on the night with a double and two runs scored for the Falcons.
It took Pfeiffer just two pitches to put their first run on the board. Leadoff hitter Derek Perry connected on a 1-0 pitch, homering for the second time this season. Francis Marion knotted the game 1-1 in the bottom of the frame, and then scored five more runs in the bottom of the second inning taking a 6-1 lead.
With one out in the fourth the Falcons recorded three consecutive singles loading the bases. Austin Fox hit into a fielder's choice scoring Mathis from third base cutting the Francis Marion lead to 6-2. Francis Marion answered by scoring one run in the fourth and seven more in the fifth.
Pfeiffer was able to add two more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Anthony Allende was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and advanced to third on a Mathis double to left center. Allende later scored on a sac fly by Kirby Lambert to centerfield. John Elwood was able to draw a bases loaded walk scoring Mathis.
The Falcons scored three more runs in the eighth inning on three hits. Lambert lead off the frame singling through the right site, and scored on an RBI single up the middle by Fox. Later in the frame Fox scored on an RBI single to right field by Damon Smith.
Fox went two-for-four on the night driving in two runs and scoring one. Lambert also recorded two hits on the evening for the Falcons.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Friday hosting a three game series with the Barton Bulldogs. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
