MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The No. 1 Pfeiffer men's soccer team (1-0) began its National Championship title defense with an impressive 4-1 victory over Lander (0-1) on Thursday evening. Santi Moar scored twice and Jaime Siaj added a goal and an assist as the Falcons won their 26th consecutive match.
"We were exceptional in the first half," commented Head Coach Bob Reasso. "We weren't exceptional in the second half but we were clinical. We stopped pressing the way we should have, which allowed them to get back into the game. At the end of the day, there was no doubt we were the better team."
The Falcons were firing from the start and outshot the Bearcats by a count of 18-3 in the opening 45 minutes. The first strike of the season came in the 22nd minute as Alex Stoiljkovic found Siaj to give Pfeiffer the early advantage. Just under three minutes later, Siaj set up Juan Sanchez as the Falcons took a two goal lead into the break.
Moar scored twice in the second half with both goals being assisted by reigning National Player of the Year Nathan Regis. Conor Felstead had the only tally for the visitors in the contest, coming in the 62nd minute.
The Falcons held a 21-16 advantage in shots and each team tallied seven corner kicks. Tomas Correa improved to 17-0 on his career in goal as the sophomore recorded one save.
The Falcons look to keep their undefeated streak alive as they host Catawba in non-conference action on Sunday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
