MISENHEIMER, NC – On Tuesday afternoon at Joe Ferebee Field, the Falcons Jordan Toney pitched solid six innings for Pfeiffer (0-2) but was unable to come away with a win as the Falcons fell to UNC Pembroke (3-1) by the score of 4-0.
Toney was efficient through five innings, but in the sixth inning, Pembroke's Roberto Rivera. ws hit by a pitch. Rivera then advanced on a pass ball by Toney. The sophomore left-hander then struck out Nolan Pierce but his wild pitch that moved Rivera to third. Next batter, Drew Beaver lined out to left fielder Dylan Goodman as Rivera scored on the play.
In the seventh, the Falcons went to the bullpen for Cameron Reid for the righty-righty matchup against the Braves Hayden Buffkin and Luke Jackson. Buffkin lined out to left but Jackson singled to right field. Head Coach Dusty Blake subbed in lefty Will Altenmueller for Reid and Kevin Debo to pop up for the out. Next batter, Jarratt Mobley looked at a wild pitch that advanced Jackson to second. Mobley then singled to left to score Jackson and then River Ryan doubled to left center to take a 3-0 lead.
Pembroke added another run in the top of the eighth as Pfeiffer was unable to rally.
The Falcons were only able to muster four hits on the day. Right fielder Damon Smith led Pfeiffer with two hits on the day. Seniors John Elwood and Zac Scudder added hits. Both have three hits in two games to lead Pfeiffer on the season.
Toney pitched six innings allowing just one run but takes the loss in as many games.
Pfeiffer returns to action this weekend as they travel to Barry for three games.
