MISENHEIMER, NC – Pfeiffer's women's lacrosse team improved to 6-3 (4-0 CC) after a commanding 20-5 win against Chowan (2-5, 2-3) at NE Lefko Field on Saturday evening.
PU's offense was on fire behind stellar performances from a trio of Falcons, as junior Molly O'Friel (Chesapeake Beach, MD / Huntingtown HS), freshman Meagan Bourque (Seabrook. TX / Clear Falls HS), and sophomore Ally Unkenholz (Ellicott City, MD / Mt. Hebron HS) combined for 15 of the team's 20 goals.
Unkenholz finished with a career-high nine points thanks to four goals and a personal best five assists. Bourque's eight points (five goals, three assists) were also a career high. O'Friel's game-leading six goals were the most since her season-opening performance against Emmanuel, when she finished with seven.
Pfeiffer scored its first four goals within the first six minutes of the game and jumped out to a dominant 8-0 lead before Chowan found the back of the net for the first time at the 13:18 mark of the first half. Unkenholz chipped one in and then the Hawks added a few more before O'Friel connected on consecutive shots within the last two minutes to close out the first frame with a 11-3 advantage.
The Falcons came out of halftime just as strong as they started, scoring twice within the first four opening minutes to grab the 13-3 lead and begin the running clock. Six different players wearing white and gold scored in the second half as PU claimed its fourth conference win in as many attempts for the 2017 campaign.
Sophomore Airea Williams (Vero Beach, FL / Gardner-Webb) led both teams with a career-high six ground balls. O'Friel and junior Josie Lent (Vestavia Hills, AL / Vestavia Hills HS) each caused five turnovers, as Pfeiffer forced 22 in total. Junior Emily James (Marietta, GA / Walton HS) improved to 5-2 in goal for the Falcons, finishing with five saves in 34:21 minutes.
Pfeiffer held its Senior Night on Saturday evening, honoring senior captain Jordan Yandle (Fort Myers, FL / Fort Myers HS) and James, who will retire at the end of the season due to injury.
