Women's Lacrosse Coasts to 18-5 Win Over Barton

Box Score

Tyler Waddell – Sports Information Graduate Assistant

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer women's lacrosse team (9-5, 7-2 CC) scored a season-high 14 goals in the first half en route to an 18-5 win over conference opponent Barton (1-10, 0-9) at NE Lefko Field on Wednesday evening.

Sophomore Ally Unkenholz (Ellicott City, MD / Mt. Hebron HS) posted another career performance, finishing with a personal best eight assists – six of which came in the first half – and three goals. Her 11 total points is also a career record and the most from any individual on the team in 2017. In an 18-8 win against Erskine on Saturday, Unkenholz tallied a career-high seven goals, giving her 20 points over her last two games.

Junior Molly O'Friel (Chesapeake Beach, MD / Huntingtown HS) and freshman Meagan Bourque (Seabrook. TX / Clear Falls HS) each led the Falcons with five goals apiece. Freshman Hailey Metzger (Naples, FL / Saint John Neumann HS) registered the first hat trick of her young career, junior Josie Lent (Vestavia Hills, AL / Vestavia Hills HS) came out on top in six draw controls, and sophomore Airea Williams (Vero Beach, FL / Gardner-Webb HS) picked up a team-high five ground balls for what was an all-around outstanding team effort.

An unassisted goal from Alyssa Torres put Barton ahead 1-0 less than three minutes into the first half, but that would prove to be the only time the Bulldogs would hold a lead as a barrage of goals from four different Falcon scorers quickly turn the tide and made it 8-1. After a pair of goals from BC's Kelly Dolan cut it to five, Metzger, Williams, Bourque, and O'Friel took turns scoring and enforced a running clock while cruising to a 14-3 lead by halftime.

Pfeiffer added four more in the final 30 minutes for the 18-5 win – its second consecutive match with 18 goals and its sixth of 15-plus this spring. It outshot Barton 42-16 and scooped up 30 ground balls to the Bulldogs' 16 and forced 10 errant clear attempts throughout the night.

The Falcons will host Mount Olive for 3rd place in the Conference Carolina standings on Tuesday, April 18 at 4 p.m. in what is the final regular season contest of 2017.
