MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Thanks to a sweep of King on Friday night, the Pfeiffer baseball team (21-23, 11-15 CC) clinched the No. 6 and final seed in the upcoming Conference Carolinas Tournament. The Falcons needed to take two of three this weekend from the Tornado (19-26, 9-17) and have Mount Olive beat Limestone twice. Both came through successfully as Pfeiffer looks to advance to their third straight Conference Tournament Championship game.

Pfeiffer withstood a furious comeback attempt by King to hold on for a 9-7 win in game one. Leading 9-2 in the top of the eighth, Pfeiffer gave up five runs and King had the tying run on second base before Cody McKenzie got out of the jam with a big strikeout. Xavier Rodriguez would nail down his sixth save of the season with a perfect ninth as Pfeiffer took the opener.

Derek Perry had two of Pfeiffer's eight extra base hits on the game. The leadoff hitter went 2-for-4 with three runs scored. On top of getting the save, Rodriguez hit his first career home run. Zach Scudder went 3-for-5 with two runs batted in.

Drew Wilson earned the win by going 7.1 innings and allowing three runs.

Pfeiffer ran out to a 7-0 advantage and cruised to a 9-2 win despite an hour rain delay. Jordan Toney tossed 5.1 innings and allowed two runs to garner his fifth win of the year. Pfeiffer pounded out five doubles in the game and chased the King starter in the third inning.

Pfeiffer will play top-seeded Mount Olive in next week's league tournament. Last season, Pfeiffer was the No. 6 seed and made a Cinderella run to the final.

The Falcons will host game three of the weekend series with King at 11 a.m. tomorrow with Senior Day beforehand.
