Box Score Pfeiffer Men's Basketball Falls at LaGrange
LaGrange, Ga. – The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team dropped a tough 98-94 USA South game at LaGrange College on Saturday afternoon.
After being tied early at 11-11 In the first half, LaGrange took control and used a 19-7 run over a five-minute span to take a 30-18 lead following a Lincoln Anderson steal and a three-point play. The Falcons were able to chip away at the Panther lead, cutting it to just three points with 4:18 left and would then close to 46-44 at halftime.
The Falcons would take their only lead of the game in the opening minutes of the second half when Tyjarek Simmons (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) hit a three-pointer to put the Falcons up 52-51. LaGrange answered with a trey of their own to put the Panthers back up 54-52.
Leading 64-62, LaGrange then reeled off eight straight unanswered points to lead by 72-62, with 10:58 remaining.
The Falcons kept coming back, cutting the deficit to one before tying the game for the final time at 92 with 59 seconds remaining. The Panthers' final six points came at the free throw line with LaGrange taking the 98-94 win.
Craig Sabb (Goose Creek, S.C.) led the way for Pfeiffer by scoring 24 points and tied his career-high by dishing nine assists. Freshman Jordan Byrd (Mebane, N.C.) scored 15 points on a 7-of-8 day from the field while junior Jamaal David (Clinton, Md.) managed a 13-point outing. Simmons rounded out the double-digit scorers by contributing 11 points in the loss.
Pfeiffer will next head to Montgomery, Alabama on Sunday, Feb. 16 to take on Huntingdon College in the final road game of the season.
