Box Score Balanced Effort Lifts Women's Lacrosse Over Averett, 11-9
Misenheimer, N.C. (March 11, 2020) – Pfeiffer University had five players score two goals in a balanced scoring attack in an 11-9 USA South women's lacrosse win over visiting Averett University at Lefko Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Falcons scored first less than three minutes in when senior Meagan Bourque scored on an assist from fellow senior Hailey Metzger. Pfeiffer then jumped up 3-0 on goals from Gabby Bosak and Sophia Griffin.
Averett got their first goal at 20:37 when Elizabeth Peasley scored on a free position shot drawing to 3-1. Startraya Galloway answered to put the Falcons up 4-1, but Averett responded with a tally at 17:19.
The Falcons then scored the next four goals, including an extra player goal from Kaley Hyatt. Bosak and Bourque also scored in the span with Metzger capping the first half scoring for the Falcons at 11:59.
Averett did score twice more in the first half, with Pfeiffer taking the 8-4 lead into halftime.
The Cougars came alive in the second half, scoring the first three goals to make the score 8-7. Griffin scored the first Falcon goal of the second half on an extra player opportunity to put the Falcons up 9-7. Averett would then get a free position goal at 8:49 followed by a shorthanded goal from Pfeiffer's Startraya Galloway that made it 11-8. Averett would score the final goal of the game at 4:49, with Pfeiffer winning 11-9
Pfeiffer goalkeeper Amber Briggs had a great afternoon, making 12 saves on the afternoon in helping the Falcons even their record to 2-2 and 2-0 in USA South play.
The loss drops Averett to 1-5 and 0-2 in league play.
Pfeiffer will hit the road for their next two games, playing at Huntingdon College on Saturday, March 14 at 1:00 p.m.
