Pfeiffer Women's Basketball Takes 60-49 Home Win Over Methodist

Misenheimer, N.C. (Jan. 24, 2021) – The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team, playing in their second game in as many days, used a big second quarter to take a 60-49 win over Methodist University on Sunday afternoon at Merner Gym.

After battling to a 14-14 tie after the first quarter, Pfeiffer used an 8-0 run late in the second quarter to go up 28-20, a lead they would take into the halftime break.

The Falcon lead would swell to as many as 18 points (41-23) in the third quarter, but Methodist clawed back to within seven points (47-40) at the 7:28 mark of the fourth quarter.

Pfeiffer would boost the lead back to 11 (53-42) after Angel Roland (Monroe, N.C.) hit a free throw with 4:31 to play.  Methodist was not able to draw any closer to seven points the rest of the way with Pfeiffer eventually taking the 60-49 win.

The Falcons improve to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in USA South play while Methodist falls to 0-2 and 0-2 in league action.

Senior's A'Mya McClain (Hickory, N.C.) and Brina Bentley (Chester, Va.) each scored in double-figures, with McClain pouring in 17 points for the second straight day while Bentley had 10 points and nine rebounds, just missing out on a double-double.  McClain also added four steals, three assists and a career-high eight rebounds on the afternoon.

Rolland continued her aggressive play, tallying eight points and hauling in seven rebounds while a trio of Falcons, Regan Allen (Olin, N.C.), Alexis Murriel (Gastonia, N.C.) and Shalonda Wilkins (Chesterfield, Va.) each had seven points each in the win.

Methodist's Tyzarea Alexander secured a double-double as she was the lone Monarch in double figures with 11 points.  She also had a team-high 12 rebounds in the loss.

Pfeiffer will next turn their attention to prepare for a pair of games this upcoming weekend against N.C. Wesleyan.  Pfeiffer is scheduled to travel to take on the Bishops on Friday, Jan. 31 at 6:30 p.m. and will host a home game on Sunday, Jan. 31 at 2:00 p.m.
