The Pfeiffer University women's lacrosse team captured their first win of the 2021 season with a convincing 21-5 road win over Brevard on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED


First Half

Pfeiffer jumped out to an early 3-1 lead and never relinquished it, scoring seven straight goals to jumo ahead 12-3.  Brevard closed to 12-4 but two more goals put the Falcons up 14-4 at halftime.

Second Half
The second half was more of the same, as Pfeiffer scored at will, posting seven goals to take the commanding 21-4 lead before Brevard closed the scoring at 1:55 to provide the eventual 21-5 final.

Inside the Box Score
Freshman Julia Barbato (West Palm Beach, Fla.) had a monster game, scoring eight goals and adding six assists.  Barbato's 14 points ties the Pfeiffer all-time program record for points in single game.  The last player to achieve the 14-point feat was Lyndsey Boswell, who had the same eight goal, six assist output in 2002 against Salve Regina.

Additionally, sophomore
Alexis Murriel (Gastonia, N.C.) tied the school record with seven caused turnovers, last achieved in 2018 by Josie Lent against Methodist.  Murriel also had a team-best seven ground balls in the win.

Other Falcons who got into the scoring column were
Starnice Galloway (Winston-Salem, N.C) with five goals, Gabby Bosak (Charleston, S.C.) with four goals, while Alyson Hanlon (Summerfield, N.C.) and Ashley Bragg (Dallas, Ga.) had two goals each.

Defensively, goalkeeper
Jordan Pendergraft (Apex, N.C.) had five saves to earn the win, improving to 1-1 on the season

The Falcons will return to play on Wednesday, March 17 with a 6:00 p.m. nonconference game at Methodist.
