Box Score 2 Pennell's Blast Helps Pfeiffer Softball Split With Averett
Misenheimer, N.C. (March 22, 2021) – Senior Makenzie Pennell hit a solo home run in thefourth inning in the second game of a USA South doubleheader to help Pfeiffer earn a split with visiting Averett.

How it Happened
Game 1 – Pfeiffer jumped out to the 1-0 lead in the home half of the third inning on a RBI double from Ashlynn Kennedy.
Averett would tie the game at 1-1 in the fourth on an RBI single from Lauren Nelson. The Cougars would then take the 2-1 one lead after a Falcon error and would extend the lead to 5-1 on a Erin Rankin three-run homer.
A sacrifice fly from Pfeiffer's Addison York would trim the lead to 5-2, but Averett would get that run back in the sixth on another RBI from Lauren Johnston.
Pfeiffer got a two-RBI single from Kennedy in the sixth to provide the eventual 6-4 final.
Game 2 – After battling through three scoreless innings, Pennell lifted a line-drive shot over the center field fence to provide the eventual game-winning run.
Caiti Mickles had a productive day in the circle, pitching the complete game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out one.
