How it Happened – Game 1
After falling down 1-0 in the first, Pfeiffer's Maddie Hinson tied the game with a double to right center that allowed Ashlynn Kennedy to score, tying the game at 1-1.
Pfeiffer then took the 3-1 lead when
Caiti Mickles lifted a two-run shot to right center in the fourth.
Pfeiffer made it 6-1 in the fifth inning after a MBU passed ball allowed Kennedy to score. An MBU error allowed Warren to score and then Hinson would score on a wild pitch.
Â
In the seventh, Gretchin Wolpert capped the scoring with her first career home run, as she took a 2-1 pitch down the right field line that curved around the fair pole to give the Falcons the 7-1 lead.
The Falcons would not allow MBU any runs in the seventh to take the win in game one.
Pfeiffer freshman
Emma Bullin earned the pitching win by throwing 6.0 innings, allowing just one run while scattering four hits. She also struck out six MBU batters in the opening game.
Game 2
Pfeiffer went ahead 1-0 in the first inning on when
Ashlyn Kennedy scampered home after MBU attempted to throw out a
Kyndell Warren stolen base attempt.
MBU then responded by scoring two runs in both the second and third innings to go up 4-1.Â
A Warren RBI single in the fourth drew Pfeiffer to 4-2, but MBU got that run back on an RBI triple in the sixth inning to lead 5-2.
Pfeiffer then rallied in the sixth by pushing three runs across to tie it at 5-5 thanks to an RBI double from
Hannah Tyner, a sacrifice fly from Kennedy and an RBI single from Warren.
With the game tied at 5-5 heading to the eighth and using the international tiebreaker, Pfeiffer was able to cut down the MBU runner at the plate on a fielder's choice. A strikeout and a pop up to second base ended the MBU threat.
In the home half of the inning, Pfeiffer got a single from
Gretchen Wolpert that put runners on the corners.Â
Taylor Parrish then popped up for the first out of the inning bringing up Kennedy, who delivered the walk-off single to left center field that scored Tyner, giving Pfeiffer the 6-5 win.
Just like in game one, Bullin earned the pitching win by throwing 2.2 innings allowing just one hit and striking out one batter.Â
