Ford Wins Hammer Throw at USA South Track & Field Championships
Berea, Ky. (April 22, 2021) – Pfeiffer University senior
Tonishea Ford won the hammer throw in leading Pfeiffer to three podium finishes and at the USA South Track & Field Championships held in Berea, Ky. on April 20-21.
Ford, from Farmville, Va., threw for 41.98m in her second attempt of the day to claim first place. Teammate
Aaliyah Thomas came in second in the event with a throw of 41.23m.
In the javelin,
Alex Stancell claimed third place when she threw for a 32.50m mark in her fourth throw of the event.
IN the discus, Ford again reached the podium, this time finishing with a 34.04m throw in her third attempt, claiming third place overall in the event.
In the running events, the 4x100 relay team of
Kayla Soublet,
Alyssa Markins,
Brina Bentley and
Alexus Boyd finished in fourth place with a time of 52.34.
As a team, Pfeiffer finished with 52 points, good for seventh-place, just one behind sixth-place Mary Baldwin and sex behind fifth-place Meredith.
Southern Virginia captured the team crown with 179 points, 17 ahead of second-place Piedmont University.
