VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – An early second half goal would prove to e the demise of the Pfeiffer University men's soccer team as they fell in a hard-fought battle 2-0 at Virginia Wesleyan University.
Ali Jaafar was strong in net for the Falcons with eight saves on the day as the Marlins dominated the possession throughout the contest. Jaafar, a sophomore from Matthews, N.C., tallied four saves in each half for the Falcons (0-2-2).
Sam Stewart and Bernardo Jardim managed to tally the only shots on goal for Pfeiffer as the Falcons were out shot 21-7 by the Marlins.
Caleb Jackson broke the tie and got Virginia Wesleyan (3-0) on the scoreboard first less than five minutes into the second half before Nate Mitchell converted a penalty kick less than 12 minutes later for the final 2-0 score.
UP NEXT: The Falcons finish out the weekend with a contest on Sunday afternoon at Christopher Newport with a 3 p.m. kickoff before returning to the friendly confines of N.E. Lefko Field on Wed., Sept. 14 when Averett comes to Misenheimer.
