Brevard, N.C. (April 25, 2023) – The fifth-seeded Pfeiffer University women's tennis team dropped its USA South first round match to fourth-seeded Brevard College by a 5-2 score on Tuesday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex.

THE BASICS
The visiting Falcons would take the lead after the doubles portion of the match, as the No. 1 team of Megan Rekieta and Alison Sloop won their match8-6.  Teammates Elithe Hudson and Riley Isley won the No. 2 match 8-5 while Brevard prevailed in the No. 3 match, 8-4

In singles play, Brevard swept four match to claim the 5-2 win.  Hamrick Perry started the Tornado comeback at No. 5 singles, taking out Pfeiffer's Emily Moore, 6-1, 6-2.  Savannah Anderson then won the No. 6 match over Pfeiffer's Delaney Geygan by a 6-1, 6-2 score, putting Brevard up 3-2.

The No. 1 match saw Hannah Hersh down Pfeiffer's Megan Rekieta 6-2, 6-2.  The clinching point o the afternoon came when Brevard's Sophie Trantham won the No. 4 match over Alison Sloop, 6-3, 6-3 to give Brevard the 5-2 win.

The loss ends the Falcons' season with an overall record of 14-6 overall.  The 14 wins for the Falcons are the most since the 2015-16 season when the program posted 13 wins.  IT also marks the most win in Pfeiffer's Division III era.

No. 4 Brevard will advance to the USA South semifinals, traveling to top-seeded and host N.C. Wesleyan University on Thursday, April 27.
