No. 17 Pfeiffer Softball Stays Perfect at Home in DH Sweep of William Peace

No. 17 Pfeiffer def. William Peace, 8-0

MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- The Pfeiffer University softball team claimed a doubleheader sweep over visiting William Peace University on Wednesday afternoon to improve to 20-0 in games played at Jack Ingram Field.

Senior Kali Morton had another terrific outing, tossing a one-hit shutout to lead the No. 17 Pfeiffer Falcons past the William Peace Pacers 8-0 in game one.

Morton (13-0) went the distance for Pfeiffer (28-1, 8-1), giving up one hit, walking one and striking out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons took the lead for good in the third, scoring for the first time in the inning. Pfeiffer plated two runs off of William Peace pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of junior Emma Chopko.

The Falcons then tacked on runs in the fourth inning when they scored six times. The big hits in that inning were a two-run single off the bat of freshman Rileigh Dalton and a two-run double from junior Abbie Yarboro.

It was a difficult day for William Peace pitchers in game two, as the No. 17 Pfeiffer Falcons racked up eight runs en route to an 8-2 victory over the Pacers on Wednesday.

Junior Kenzi Lyall (11-0) started in the circle and picked up the win for Pfeiffer (29-1, 9-1). The right-hander went 4.2 shutout innings without giving up a hit, allowing two walks and striking out two. Senior Kali Morton also made an impact in the circle for the Falcons, starting the ballgame and throwing 2.1 innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on two hits, with no walks and one strikeout.

In the batter's box, the Falcons were led by Lyall, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Freshman Rileigh Dalton put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-1 with a double and two RBI. Junior Abbie Yarboro also chipped in for Pfeiffer, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Junior Alyssa Broaddus came across to score the lone run of the inning for Pfeiffer and get them on the board.

The Falcons lost the lead they built in the second, but got back on the board in the fourth trailing 2-1. The Pfeiffer offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Dalton, which brought the score to 5-2 in favor of the Falcons.

Pfeiffer held William Peace scoreless before building their lead to 8-2 in the sixth inning. The Falcons scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of Lyall that scored sophomore Charly Cooper and Yarboro. The score remained 8-2 for the rest of the game, as Pfeiffer coasted to the win.
