Softball Dominant in DH Sweep at Salem College

GAME 1
No. 16 Pfeiffer def. Salem, 9-0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (April 6, 2024) --Senior Kali Morton was dealing on Saturday, hurling a three-hit shutout to lead the No. 16 Pfeiffer Falcons over the Salem College Spirits, 9-0.

Morton (12-0) went the distance for Pfeiffer (26-1, 6-1), giving up three hits, walking two and striking out 11.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons took the lead for good in the second, scoring for the first time in the inning. Pfeiffer scored twice in the inning, including one on a solo shot from junior Alyssa Broaddus, her second of the season.

The Falcons then tacked on more runs in the third and fourth innings, with their biggest output coming in the third when they pushed four across. The big hit in that inning was a two-run home run off the bat of junior Kenzi Lyall.

GAME 2
No. 16 Pfeiffer def, Salem, 16-1

In the second game of the afternoon, the Pfeiffer Falcons took a 7-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 16-1 win.

Junior Kenzi Lyall (10-0) started in the circle and picked up the win for Pfeiffer (27-1, 7-1). The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Pfeiffer's offense started clicking and put up seven runs, including a two-run single off the bat of junior Jaci Cook.

The Spirits then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 7-1 until the Falcons expanded their advantage in the third. which brought the Falcons lead to 10-1.

Pfeiffer held Salem without a run before building their lead to 14-1 the following inning. The Falcons bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run home run off the bat of freshman Emily Dickerson, the first of her career.

Pfeiffer held Salem scoreless before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Falcons scored twice on junior Cassidy Brinkley's two-run homer, bringing the Pfeiffer advantage to 16-1. The score remained 16-1 for the rest of the game, as the Falcons coasted to the win.

Pfeiffer will return home to Jack Ingram Field on Wednesday, April 10 to host William Peace University in a USA South doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
