Another Record Falls as Falcons Make Bid for No. 1 Ranking

Box Score

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The No. 2 Pfeiffer men's soccer team (11-0, 5-0 CC) broke a 21 year old record for most consecutive victories in a season with a 5-0 blanking of Belmont Abbey (1-8-1, 0-4-1). Nathan Regis scored his 14th and 15th goals of the season and Alex Stoiljkovic added two assists as the Falcons surpassed the 1994 mark of 10 consecutive wins.

"It was a tremendous team effort," commented head coach Bob Reasso. "On a wet and sloppy night, I thought we played some excellent soccer and I'm really proud of the guys."

Heading into the weekend, Regis was tied for first in the nation in goals scored and he added to that total with another strong performance. The junior put the Falcons on the board in the 22nd minute as Stoiljkovic's through ball found Regis who beat the keeper. In the 40th minute, Santi Moar gathered a corner kick just outside the box and sent his shot into the top right corner of the net. Pfeiffer would go into the break up two.

Pfeiffer poured it on in the second half as Jaime Siaj added his 11th strike of the season in the 53rd minute. Just over seven minutes later, Moar assisted on Martim Galvao's third tally of the year. Regis capped the scoring in the 66th minute as the route was on.

Pfeiffer held a commanding 22-5 lead in shots and a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Tomas Correa made his first career start and made two stops to secure his first shutout. It was the fifth consecutive shutout for the Falcons who haven't allowed a goal in 343:02 of game action. Luke Whelan suffered the loss for the Crusaders as he allowed three goals in 57:29 of action.

The Falcons made a strong case for the No. 1 ranking in all of Division II with a dominating week. The NSCAA poll will be announced Tuesday afternoon and the Falcons will find out if they have secured the top spot.

Pfeiffer returns to action on Wednesday evening as they travel to Queens for a non-conference matchup at 7:30 p.m.
