MISENHEIMER, N.C. – On a rain soaked N.E. Lefko Field, on Saturday night, the Pfeiffer (4-7-1, 2-4-1 CC) women's soccer team lost to Belmont Abbey (8-2-1, 6-0 CC) on Senior Day by the score of 4-1.
Senior Aaliyah Jackson got the action started in the early moments of the match as she was unable to cash in on a couple shot attempts. In the fifth minute, Jackson had a shot that rattled off the crossbar. Moments later, Jackson again sent a shot on goal that was saved by Belmont Abbey goalkeeper Megan Bowen.
Just a few minutes later, a pair of seniors teamed up to put Pfeiffer on the scoreboard. In the seventh minute, Katlyn Stevens sent a perfect pass up the middle of the field to Jackson who found the back of the net.
In the 18th minute Belmont Abbey's Cierra Skyers took a shot but the Pfeiffer defense blocked it away but Meghan Philp was there to score off the deflection to tie the score.
With the game still in doubt, the Crusaders broke it up open in the 80th minute as Jillian Lang scored off a corner kick from Cassidy Coutinho to make it 2-1. Two more late goals by Kate Hennessy and Laura Shelton broke open the score as the Crusaders never looked back.
With her sixth goal of the season, Pfeiffer's Jackson goes to 36 career goals, tied for second in school history and her 78 points moves her to third all-time.
