Box Score

Jeremy Zalacca - Director of Athletic Communications

BELMONT, N.C. - In the final Conference Carolinas regular season match in Pfeiffer women's soccer history, the Falcons (9-7-1, 7-4 CC) dropped a 2-0 decision at the hands of Belmont Abbey (14-2-1, 10-1) on a warm Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. Sydney Pluhacek netted the game-winner in the 61st minute to send the Crusaders to victory.

Pfeiffer was out shot on the day by a count of 11-6 and the Crusaders held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman Kaley Hyatt made four saves in net but suffered the loss.

In what could be the last time these rivals face each other, Cierra Skyers scored the other Abbey goal, in the 82nd minute with the assist going to Morgan Patton to put the contest out of reach. Next season, the Falcons will head to the USA South Conference and NCAA Division III ending the Division II era.

After officially going 7-4 this year in league play, Pfeiffer closes its time in Conference Carolinas with a record of 142-72-18 and owners of two regular season championships (2000, 2005).

The Falcons will look to win their fourth ever Conference Carolinas Tournament title as they enter as the number three seed. Pfeiffer will host a quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday at 7 p.m. with the opponent to be determined. Pfeiffer's most recent tournament title came in 2013 when they were a number four seed and the Falcons were a tournament runner up in 2014.

The official conference tournament bracket will be announced later this evening. Check gofalconsports.com or follow us on twitter @pfeiffersports for the latest tournament information.
