SALISBURY, N.C. - The Pfeiffer women's soccer team (3-4-1) dropped a back-and-forth contest at Catawba (5-1-1) on Thursday afternoon in a makeup of yesterday's match that was rained out. Brae Buster scored twice but Caitlin Hill's goal in the 80th minute gave Catawba a 3-2 non-conference victory.
With her effort tonight, Buster continues to climb the all-time charts. The senior pulls into a tie for seventh in Pfeiffer history with 24 career goals and an eighth place tie with 60 career points.
Catawba jumped out to an early lead just 9:27 into the contest. Becky Frost connected on her second goal of the season as her header from 10 yards out got past keeper Kaley Hyatt. Buster had the answer in the 32nd minute as the Raleigh native fired her shot from the right which deflected of the post and in for her second goal of the year. The first half would end with each team attempting six shots.
Catawba would once again claim the lead as the Indians struck just 1:41 into the second frame. Jenny Lux would find the back of the net to give Catawba a 2-1 advantage. Buster and the Falcons refused to give in and in the 61st minute Buster scored to even the contest. Unfortunately, Lux would find Hill whose header into the open net was the game-winner to give the Indians a narrow victory.
For the match, Catawba held a 17-10 advantage in shots and an 11-7 lead in shots on goal. Catawba took seven corners and the Falcons had four. Hyatt added eight saves in net but dropped to 3-4-1 on the year. Liz Nail made five stops in the winning effort. Buster and Hailey Havelind led Pfeiffer with three shots apiece and Macy Rutledge added two.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Saturday as they host Erskine on Homecoming Weekend. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. on N.E. Lefko Field and admission is free to the match.
