MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The No. 1 Pfeiffer men's soccer team (2-0) scored four times in a 12:54 span in the second half to defeat upset-minded Catawba (0-1) on Sunday night at N.E. Lefko Field. Jaime Siaj had two goals and an assist and Nathan Regis tallied one goal and two assists on the evening.
The opening 45 minutes was physical, featuring 15 fouls and two yellow cards. Catawba took the first two shots of the contest before Santi Moar registered the Falcons first shot in the 15th minute. The Falcons best opportunity came in the 32nd minute after Juan Sanchez's shot was saved, Jaime Siaj headed the rebound just high and the game remained scoreless. The period would end with Pfeiffer holding an 8-3 advantage in shots, a 5-1 lead in corner kicks and a 3-0 upper hand in shots on frame.
The scoring barrage began in the 63rd minute as Alex Stoiljkovic send a ball into the box that Regis deflected to Siaj for the first tally of the evening. Catawba would even the score less than four minutes later as a corner kick resulted in an own goal to even the contest. In the 70th minute, Regis found the back off the net with the assists going to Moar and Siaj. Just 64 seconds later, the explosive Pfeiffer offense struck again as Cristobal Allendes scored his first off the season off a deflection after a Falcon corner kick. Siaj would add Pfeiffer's fourth goal in the 76th minute before Catawba cut the lead to 4-2 with just 53 seconds to play.
"You have to credit Catawba, they played really hard," commented head coach Bob Reasso following the match. "We knew as soon as we scored the first goal that we would score more. We got sloppy and gave up some goals but we got a win and that's all that matters."
The contest would end with Pfeiffer holding a 24-8 advantage in shots and a 14-2 lead in corner kicks.
The Falcons extend their win streak to 27 games and their home winning streak to 21 straight. The Falcons will head to Boca Raton, FL for a big rematch against Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday at 1 p.m. The last time these two teams met, Pfeiffer scored with one second to go to steal a 5-4 victory and advance to the Final Four.
