Falcons Beat Familiar Foe to Earn Second Straight Victory

Box Score

Jeremy Zalacca - Director of Athletic Communications

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Thanks to a pair of goals by freshman Cayci Eaton, including the game-winner in the 82nd minute, the Pfeiffer women's soccer team (3-3) won its second straight and defeated former Conference Carolinas rival Barton (1-4-2) 3-2 on Tuesday evening. The win gets the Falcons back to .500 as Eaton pushes her goal total to seven.

5:22 into the match, freshman Gabby Bosak found the back of the net to give the Falcons a quick 1-0 advantage. That would be all the scoring in the half as the offenses broke loose in the second stanza.

The Bulldogs drew even 1:38 into the second half when Rebekah Beal beat the Falcon defense and put her shot over the outstretched hands of goalkeeper Kaley Hyatt. Pfeiffer waited just 49 seconds to respond as Eaton's first of the night came off a corner kick with the assist going to Meredith Manson.

The 2-1 advantage lasted less than eight minutes until Barton battled back. Jordyn Brown scored with the assist going to Taylor Doeble as the team's scored three times in the first 10 minutes of action.

Eaton netted the game-winner at the 81:06 mark. Teammate Maddie Capel fired a shot that was saved but the rebound came directly to Eaton who put it home for her third career game-winning goal.

With five minutes left in the match, the Bulldogs were primed to draw even but a tremendous slide tackle by freshman Meredith Manson cleared the ball to preserve the one-goal advantage.

The talented freshmen class of the Falcons has accounted for 15 of the team's 17 goals through the first six matches.

Hyatt made four saves on the evening, including a terrific effort late in the contest on a Barton breakaway, to earn her third victory of the year.

Pfeiffer held a 14-9 advantage in shots and a 4-2 lead in corner kicks on the night.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday afternoon as they host Regent University at 3 p.m. on Homecoming Weekend.
