Box Score Covenant Converts Penalty Kick to Drop Pfeiffer Men's Soccer 1-0
Misenheimer, N.C. (Sept.29, 2018) – Covenant College got a first half penalty kick from Jesse Riggs ad that was all that was needed, as Covenant snuffed out a physical 1-0 win over the Pfeiffer University men's soccer team at Lefko Field on Saturday afternoon.
Riggs kick came after he was fouled inside the box at the 37:30 mark of the first half. Riggs then placed the awarded kick to the left of Pfeiffer goalkeeper David Chavarria (Franklinville, N.C.)
The Falcons were awarded a penalty kick of their own at the 37:00 minute mark, but Chris Brown's (Sneads Ferry, N.C.) blast was knocked away by Covenant keeper Paul Lemay to preserve the 1-0 lead, a cushion that would stand after a scoreless second half.
The loss drops Pfeiffer to 3-5 overall and 0-4 in USA South action while Covenant ups their record to 7-3-1, 3-1-1 in conference play.
The Falcons will look to snap their losing skid on Oct. 3 when they welcome Averett to Misenheimer for a 7:00 p.m. match.
