How it Happened

Game 1 – Visiting Ferrum wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as the second Panther batter lifted a home run to center field to claim the early 2-0 lead.  Pfeiffer cut that lead in half in the bottom of the first when Caiti Mickles (Boonville, N.C.) grounded out, sending Ashlynn Kennedy (New London, N.C.) across.

Pfeiffer would tie the game at 2-2 in the second inning off the bat of Paige Love (Rock Hill, S.C.) as she hit an RBI single.  The Falcons would then gain the 3-2 lead in the fourth inning when Love scored on a Ferrum throwing error.

Ferrum then recaptured the lead in the fifth inning on a two-RBI single, but Pfeiffer pushed four runs across in the sixth to take the 7-4 lead.  Alexis Walter (Taylorsville, N.C.), Makenzie Pennell (Taylorsville, N.C.) Mickles, and Reece Davis (Hickory, N.C.) all had RBI in the inning, with Pennell and Mickles hitting doubles.

The Falcons allowed Ferrum two hits in the seventh inning, but the Panthers were unable to score again, with Pfeiffer winning game one 7-4.

Game 2 – Ferrum once again jumped out to an early lead thanks to an RBI double from Tori Scott, but once again, Pfeiffer responded, this time by putting up three runs in the third inning on RBI singles from Walter and Mickles, followed by a Davis fielders choice.

The Falcons blew open the game in the fifth inning, plating four runs this time on three consecutive doubles provided by Mickles, Sara Brown (Franklin County, Va.) and Mattie Hinson (Norwood, N.C.).
Hinson would score the final run of the game after Addison York was caught in a run-down, but Hinson crossed the plate before the out was recorded.

Ferrum, who was receiving votes in the latest NFCA Division III Poll, was retired in order in both the sixth and seventh innings, sending Pfeiffer to the 7-1 win.

Pfeiffer will travel to Newport News, Va. on March 6-7 to take on Salisbury and Christopher Newport.  Both are ranked in the latest NFCA Division III Coaches Poll, with Salisbury standing at fifth nationally and CNU ranked third.
