Box Score 4 Pfeiffer Softball Faces Stiff Competition in Virginia
Newport News, Va. (March 8, 2020) – The Pfeiffer University softball team ventured to Newport News, Va. to face three teams ranked in the top-five in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association preseason poll over the weekend.

Key Stats
Game 1 – Paige Love (Rock Hill, S.C.) went 2-for-3 on the afternoon and Makenzie Pennell (Taylorsville, N.C.) had an RBI as Pfeiffer dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 3 Christopher Newport University.
Game 2 – Pennell hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, but the Falcons fell to No. 4 Virginia Wesleyan by a 7-3 score. Alexis Walter (Taylorsville, N.C.) went 2-for-4 including a double in the loss. Reece Davis (Hickory, N.C.) also had a double for Pfeiffer.
Game 3 – Taylor Parrish (Rockingham, N.C.) tossed a complete game shutout limiting No. 5 Salisbury to just two hits while striking out one. During the beginning stages of the game, she retired 10 consecutive batters.
Ashlyn Kennedy (New London, N.C.) drove in Pfeiffer's first run in the first inning on a double to left-center, scoring Kyndell Warren (Lenoir, N.C.).
Pfeiffer got an RBI single in the third inning from Parrish to make it 3-0. Walter would then get an RBI when she was able to reach on a fielder's choice in the fourth, boosting Pfeiffer to the 4-0 lead. Love followed with and RBI single in the fourth then Davis hit an RBI single to go up 6-0.
Addison York (Olin, N.C.) hit an RBI triple in the sixth inning to close the scoring at 7-0.
Game 4 – Pennell hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to provide Pfeiffer's only run in the 3-1 loss. Davis tossed six inning allowing four runs and struck out a pair of batters in the loss to No. 4 Virginia Wesleyan.
Game 5 – Kennedy had three RBI while Walter, Pennell and Warren each had one each as Pfeiffer dropped an 11-6 decision to No. 3 Christopher Newport.
Caiti Mickles (Boonville, N.C.) took the loss for the Falcons, giving up six hits and three runs while striking out one. Kennedy would also see action in the circle, pitching 2.2 innings while striking out a pair of CNU batters.

Pfeiffer will being USA South play on Saturday, March 13 with a pair of games at William Peace University. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
The Falcons will also host WPU on Sunday, March 14 in a nonconference doubleheader beginning and 1:00 p.m.
