Oglethorpe Drops Pfeiffer Women's Lacrosse 20-9 on Opening Day
Misenheimer, N.C. (Feb. 11, 202#) – Despite giving up the first two goals of the game, visiting Oglethorpe University dealt Pfeiffer University a 20-9 opening day nonconference women's lacrosse defeat at an overcast Lefko Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Pfeiffer started the game hot, jumping out to a 2-0 lead. Junior
Julia Barbato (West Chester, Pa.) opened the 2023 season with a goal at 13:56 on an assist from senior
Alexis Murriel (Gastonia, N.C.). The Falcons'
Chloe Johnson (Fort Mill, S.C.) scored an unassisted goal at 12:21 to give Pfeiffer the 2-0 lead.
Oglethorpe then scored seven unanswered first quarter goals to go up 7-2. Barbato then added another pair of scores in the late stages of the quarter to provide the 7-4 score.
The Stormy Petrals would then open the second quarter with four straight scores before a pair of Murriel goals brough the score to 11-6. Down 13-6, Murriel close the first half scoring with another pair of goals to provide the 13-8 halftime score.
Oglethorpe outscored Pfeiffer 4-1 in the third quarter, with the lone Pfeiffer score again coming on an unassisted tally from Murriel.
Oglethorpe would score twice in the fourth quarter while holding the Falcons scoreless in taking the 20-9 win.

Murriel also managed three caused turnovers and had a ground ball, while goalkeeper

Oglethorpe's Ally Moir had five goals and an assist to lead the Stormy Petrals. OU goalkeeper Tori Perez finished with eight saves on the afternoon.
