| Misenheimer, NC---Pfeiffer lost a heartbreaking 1-0 decision to visiting Queens University Saturday afternoon. In a battle for the CVAC Regular Season title the Royals used a goal by Tamara Diaz-Matosas with 10:52 to go to lay claim to the championship. Pfeiffer finishes the regular season at 15-4 and 9-2 in the CVAC. The Falcons will host a game Tuesday at 2:00 pm in the first round of the CVAC Tournament. Their opponent is yet to be determined. This game was mostly a mid-field battle. Both teams played tough defense and there were few scoring chances for each team. In the 12th minute a Queens header beat Pfeiffer goalkeeper Jennifer Lindow but it was cleared off the goalline by the Falcon defense. Ashley Hawkins broke free in the 16th minute, but her chip over the Royals goalie from 25 yards just missed the top left corner of the goal.   Kristen Brahosky kept the game scoreless in the 26th minute when she headed a Queens shot away that was headed into the corner of the goal. Queens had a breakaway in the 30th minute but Lindow came up with a huge diving save. The game was scoreless at halftime. Hawkins had another chance in the 51st minute but her shot from a tight angle went just wide. Kirsten Bartsch had a header in the 55th minute off a free kick but it was saved by the keeper. Neither team had a good scoring chance until the 79th minute when Diaz-Matosas got free in front of the Falcon goal and drilled one into the net. Pfeiffer pushed hard the last ten minutes but couldn't score and the game ended in a 1-0 Queens victory. Pfeiffer will host an opening round game in the CVAC Tournament on Tuesday. Game time will be 2:00 pm and their opponent will be determined after this weekend's CVAC games. |
