Trailing 3-1 in First Quarter, #10 Men's Lacrosse Reels Off Nine-Straight Goals to Take 13-6 Win over Coker

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Trailing 3-1 late in the first quarter, Pfeiffer University exploded with nine-straight goals to claim a 13-6 victory over Coker College in Conference Carolinas men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons, ranked #10 in the nation, moves to 9-1 overall winning their fifth-straight, 3-0 in league play, while sending the Cobras to 2-9, 0-5.

Trailing 3-1 with 3:16 remaining in the first, James Shepherd (St. John, NEW BRUNSWICK) would reel off back-to-back goals 55 seconds apart to tie the game before Robert Hope (Peterborough, ONTARIO) put Pfeiffer up 4-3 with 50 seconds left. Shepherd would sandwich his third goal of the day in between two more from Kory Lutes (Orlando, FL) while Steven Tilmon (Orlando, FL) wrapped up first half scoring finding the back of the net with 17 seconds left as the Falcons carried an 8-3 lead into the break.

Tilmon would start third quarter scoring 1:36 into the period with his second while Khalid Stukes (Alexandria, VA) would win the ensuing faceoff, scoop up the groundball and breakaway to the net scoring his first of the season extended the lead to 10-3. Steven Zolezzi (Lindenhurst, NY), Mike Martiello (Westbury, NY) and a man-up goal by Ryan Maurer (Mt. Sinai, NY) brought Coker to within four at 10-6 closing out the third until Pfeiffer put home final goals from Mike Triolo (Toronto, ONTARIO), Hope and Cole Sheen (Edmonton, ALBERA) to seal the 13-6 victory.

Shepherd and Lutes would each finish the day with a hat trick while Hope and Tilmon each concluded with two. Tilmon would add a game-high four assists in the win. Stukes would rack up 10 groundballs while winning 17-of-22 faceoff attempts on Saturday while Jeff Konko (Rochester, NY) caused six turnovers. Hayden Kirk (Farmington, NY) turned away a dozen shots in net to improve his record to 9-1 on the year.

Pfeiffer will stay inside league play for the next outing on Wednesday at Belmont Abbey beginning at 3:30 p.m.
