MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Dylan Bedell scored with 19 seconds remaining in the match, vaulting Lenoir-Rhyne (5-3-1) to a 3-2 victory over Pfeiffer (4-4) on Wednesday afternoon.
Bedell lofted a perfectly placed ball into the top right corner of the goal, just over the outstretched fingertips of the Pfeiffer goalkeeper to snatch the victory for the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne held a 10-6 advantage in shots on the afternoon, but the Falcons made the most of their chances. Pfeiffer scored on each of the two shots they put on net in the non-conference matchup.
Pfeiffer's first goal came 9:08 into the match as Katlyn Stevens gathered a failed clearing attempt by the Bears goalie and lofted a touch shot into the open net. The 1-0 lead would hold for 30 minutes before the Bears answered shortly before the half. Brianna Belsky notched her second goal of the season as her shot from 25 yards out beat Deidre Gilley to even the contest.
Coming out of the break, it was the Bears who would strike first. In the 54th minute, Garcelle Alequine gathered a ball near midfield and sprinted past the Pfeiffer defense. Alequine ended up with a 1v1 against Gilley and beat the keeper for her ninth strike of the season.
The Falcons wouldn't go down easily as senior Kayla Rodriguez evened the score in the 79th minute. Rodriguez took a touch pass from Aaliyah Jackson just outside the box and connected for her third goal of the year.
When it looked like overtime was looming, the Bears capitalized on their final opportunity to steal the road win.
The Falcons look to get back on track this Saturday as they host Erskine as part of homecoming weekend in Misenheimer. The match kicks off at 2 p.m.
