MISENEHIMER, N.C. - In their dig pink cancer awareness match, the Pfeiffer women's volleyball team (0-21) dropped a three set contest at home against Coker (5-21) on Wednesday night. Junior Kelsey Blauser posted a match-high nine kills for the Falcons and added a service ace and assisted block.
Coker took the match by set scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-23 and survived a furious Pfeiffer comeback in the third set to hang on.
Despite trailing 22-14 in the final set, Pfeiffer refused to fold. After a Cobras service error, Anna Tomkins served four straight points to cut the lead to 22-19. Back-to-back scores pushed the contest to match point. Again Pfeiffer rallied as Allison Rosas served three straight points forcing Coker to call its final timeout. With the match at 24-23, Laura Fortner's swing went just long, giving the guests the victory.
For the match, Pfeiffer tallied a .121 hitting percentage. Rosas, Fortner and McKenzie McDonald each recorded five kills in the set and Anna Tomkins handed out 20 assists. Defensively, Shenelle Charlot and Haley Denny each added nine digs.
A trio of Cobras recorded eight kills on the night and Christen Bragg recorded a double-double with 30 assists and 10 digs.
The Falcons return to action on Friday evening as they host Belmont Abbey at 7 p.m. in Conference Carolinas action.
