MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer women's volleyball team dominated St. Augustine's on Senior Day inside Merner Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon. Pfeiffer blanked the guests 3-0 on a day where the careers of seniors Kelly Lancellot and Allison Rosas were celebrated prior to the contest.
Lancellot and Shenelle Charlot paced the offensive attack with nine kills each, while Laura Fortner and Kelsey Blauser each added eight kills. Anna Tomkins chipped in with 18 assists, three service aces and four digs on the afternoon and Katie Wilson finished with 19 assists. Haley Denny led the defense with 16 digs and Charlot added 10, narrowly missing her second consecutive double-double.
Pfeiffer hit .295 for the match, easily a season high. Charlot hit .368 for Pfeiffer, while Lancellot posted a .353 hitting percentage as Pfeiffer never trailed in the match.
In the first set, Pfeiffer ran out to an 11-4 start and never looked back. St. Augustine's called a timeout to try to thwart Pfeiffer's momentum but were unsuccessful. Pfeiffer pushed the lead to 20-9 on a kill by Fortner and closed out the set with a block from Rosas and Blauser.
Set two was a bit tighter but the result was the same. Pfeiffer led 17-13 but St. Augustine's clawed back and evened the score at 19, forcing a Pfeiffer timeout. Lancellot had two kills and Fortner added one as Pfeiffer scored three straight to take a 22-19 advantage. Blauser finished off St. Augustine's with a kill to give Pfeiffer the 25-21 victory.
Pfeiffer easily dispatched of St. Augustine's in the third set 25-15. Pfeiffer led by as many as 11 in the set and fittingly it was Rosas who slammed home the game winning kill in her last home match.
Pfeiffer looks to continue its strong play when they return to action on Friday when they travel to Converse for a 7 p.m. match.
