Jackson Breaks Scoring Record but Falcons Fall in Overtime

Quentin M. Reed - Sports Information Graduate Assistant

Bristol, TN –  After coming back from three goals down, the Pfeiffer (6-8-2, 4-5-2 CC) women's soccer team forced two overtime periods with the King Tornado (8-5-2, 6-2-1 CC) but fell 5-4 at Parks Field. Senior Aaliyah Jackson broke the all-time record for most career goals as she tallied her 40th and 41st career strikes in the tough loss.

King got off to an early 3-0 lead when Miranda Smith scored two times along with another by Kara Garrett gave the Tornado the early advantage.

In the 29th minute, Jackson headed a Stephanie Hardig cross from the right side of the field to net the record-breaking goal. The previous record was held by Alyssa Wombell who had 39 career tallies.

King started the second half with a goal in the 51st minute as Garrett scored on a cross from Smith to make it 4-1 lead. Pfeiffer came right back within the minute as Marcy Santana threaded a through ball to Hailey Havelind to make it 4-2. After a King foul,  Santana set up her teammates from the left sideline as she lofted her free kick into Tori Jackson who headed the ball into the net.

With nine minutes left in the game Falcon goalkeeper Deidre Gilley punted the ball to midfield as Brae Buster came away with the errant ball and sent a nice pass to Aaliyah Jackson who dribbled by her defender and King goalkeeper Olivia Drake for the easy score.

The Falcons and Tornado played scoreless through the end of regulation forcing an overtime session.

After the first overtime period, the score remained at four all.  In the second overtime stanza, the Falcons had a couple chances to score but couldn't connect.

In the 101st minute,  Katlyn Stevens sent a corner kick into Aaliyah Jackson but the senior forwards header went wide of frame. The 103rd minute saw the crossbar being hit by Havelind but rebounded by Andrea Garcia who had too much on her shot that went high.

King took advantage of the Falcon misses when Kara Garrett took a pass from Hulda Sigurdardotti to net her third goal of the match.

Wombwell is in danger of losing another all-time record to Jackson as she has just four more career points than Aaliyah.

The Falcons finish off the regular season as they travel to Southern Weselyan in a Conference Carolinas match at 1 p.m. on Halloween.
