Men's Lacrosse Suffers 11-10 Overtime Loss at Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - For the third time this season, the Pfeiffer men's lacrosse team (2-1) saw a game decided by one goal. However, for the first time the Falcons came out on the losing end as No. 10 Queens (2-2) recorded an 11-10 overtime victory. as Casey Hock scored the game-winner 1:39 into the sudden death period.

Matt Michaeli scored three goals in the game's first 15:35 and Pfeiffer used five consecutive goals to take a 7-5 lead into the half. However, the Royals scored the first four goals of the second half to take a 9-7 advantage.

Mike Triolo scored Pfeiffer's first goal of the second half at the 5:07 mark of the fourth quarter to cut the Queens lead to 9-8. Evan Farkas answered for the guests 2:23 later, pushing the lead pack to two goals. Derek Thomas, who has had a knack for scoring clutch goals in his career, scored with 2:08 left in the fourth quarter making the score 10-9. A penalty by Queens gave the Falcons a man advantage and Kyle Pauwels evened the game at 10 with 1:37 left in the quarter for Pfeiffer's first and only goal with the extra man. Cole Paciejewski took a shot with eight seconds left on the clock but Royals goalie Eric Dolan made the save and sent the game into overtime.

Queens won the faceoff and Garrett Chan set up Hock for his seventh score of the season as Queens earned their second victory of the year.

The Royals won 19-of-24 face offs in the contest and held a 32-21 advantage in ground balls. Pauwels (2 g, 2 a) and Michaeli (3 g, 1 a) led the Falcons with four points each. Michaeli and David Lehman each recorded four ground balls and Jake Bye caused two turnovers.

Chan recorded one goal and five assists for the Royals and Hock finished with three goals and an assist. Eric Dolan made 13 saves in goal to earn the win.

In their last game, Pfeiffer won an 11-10 overtime contest against Mars Hill. It was the second time in as many seasons that Pfeiffer played back-to-back overtime games. Last year, Pfeiffer beat Catawba 10-9 in OT and then fell to Mount Olive 11-10 in sudden death.

Pfeiffer looks to get back on track Wednesday as they open Conference Carolinas play with a 4 p.m. matchup against Lees-McRae at home.
