PEMBROKE, NC – The Pfeiffer Falcons women's soccer team (1-2) traveled to UNC Pembroke (1-3) on Thursday afternoon and dropped a 4-2 non-conference match to the Braves.
The Falcons started off the match strong as Katlyn Stevens took a corner kick in the 3rd minute as Macy Rutledge controlled the ball back to Stevens who was in front of the goal to give the Falcon a 1-0 lead and her first goal of the season.
UNCP went onto score two answered goals before the half ended when Katie Watkins was assisted by Stacey Scott in the 9th minute. In the 32nd minute Jasmine Senecal-Guzman scored on the assist from Courtney Crump.
The Braves came out and scored first in the second half. In the 59th minute as Crump got by the Falcons defense and put the shot by goalkeeper Deidre Gilley, making it 3-1.
In the 60th minute, the Falcons countered as forward Brae Buster connected from a Marcy Santana pass for her first goal of the game, cutting the lead to 3-2. Buster's goal now gives her two goals and Santana collects her second assist of the young season.
The Braves closed the game in the 77th minute as Amber Watkins lofted a 25 yard shot that got over Gilley's outstretched hands.
In the match Pfeiffer outshot the Braves 16-15 and lead them 5-0 in corner kicks. Sophomore Gilley also tallied four saves.
The Falcons return to play on September 13th at 1 p.m. as they play host to the Flagler Saints for a non-conference match.
