GAFFNEY, S.C.– The Pfeiffer Falcon's (1-4-1, 0-2-1) women soccer team on Saturday evening suffered a defeat to Limestone Saints (6-0, 3-0) by the score of 5-1 in Conference Carolinas play.
The Saints got the scoring going early in the game when in the 15th minute Ashton Bowles who was in front of Falcon's goalkeeper Deidre Gilley scored off a corner kick from Isidora Hernandez to make it 1-0 Saints.
The Falcons countered with their only goal of the game when in the 31st minute, senior forward Aaliyah Jackson broke through the Saints defense and took a long, soring pass from Kirsten Martin to get it by Saints goalkeeper Mariette Martinez and tie the score at 1-1.
Four minutes later Marcy Santana took a wide open shot from 20 yards away that went high and cleared the crossbar.
As time was ticking away in the first half of play, the Falcons scrambled around to set up for a corner kick. Senior Katlyn Stevens lofted a pass to about 18 yards in front of the goal box, but as the ball squirmed away from the Falcons, Saint Megan Winglosky corralled the ball and sent a long pass out to her streaking teammate Megan O'Connor. O'Connor raced by the last Falcon defender and got a shot off with 11 seconds remaining that got over Gilley, making it 2-1 Saints at the half.
The second half started much like the first when in the 52nd minute when Saint Alex Mathis made it 3-1 as she took a pass from Holly Rawcliffe to beat the sophomore Gilley.
In the 77th minute of play, the Saints added another goal to make it 4-1 when Bowles scored her second goal of the game assisted from Naiara Kapstein.
The Saints sealed the victory 5-1 when they added a late goal in the 82nd minute as Holly Rawcliffe was assisted by Megan O'Connor.
On the evening Falcon Aayliyah Jackson scored her fourth goal in two games and added three shots. Jackson's goal gives her 34 for her career and is 3rd all-time, two behind number two in school history Laura Crews ('06). Jackson's two points on the evening ties her for fourth in school history with Michelle Vaudreuil ('07) with 72 and now is five points away from Crews' 79.
The Falcons tallied 11 shots; three by Jackson and Brae Buster; two by Marcy Santanta; one by Stevens, Jennifer Baity and Andrea Garcia. Buster had two shots on goal while Jackson and Garcia came up with one.
