Box Score 2 MISENHEIMER, NC- The Pfeiffer women's volleyball team opened up their season on Friday with a pair of matches, at the second annual Falcon Classic. The Falcons spilt the day beating Johnson C. Smith in the first match of the day 3-1 and dropping the second 3-0 to Salem International. Shenelle Charlot led the way for Pfeiffer with a combined 23 kills in the two games.
Vs. Johnson C. Smith
In the first set Pfeiffer jumped out to a 7-2 lead, the stretch included two kills by both Kayla Hyatt and Erin Errington to go along with a service ace by Charlot. The Falcons ended the first set on a 4-0 run beating the Golden Bulls 25-19. Hyatt recorded six kills in the set to lead the way for Pfeiffer.
With the scored tied 16-16 in the second set the Falcons scored the final 10 points of the set en route to a 25-16 victory. The run was highlighted by the great service of Katie Wilson, she recorded two service aces and a kill during that stretch. Charlot capped of the run with a game winning kill.
After dropping the third set the Falcons got back on track dominating the fourth set 25-13. Pfeiffer scored seven of the first nine points to start the game, including back-to-back kills by Errington and Hyatt on the way to Pfeiffer's first victory of the season.
The Falcons outhit the Golden Bulls, .545 to .056. Pfeiffer had three girls with double digit kills Charlot had a match-high 13 kills, both Errington and Hyatt added 11 kills apiece. Wilson had a match-high 40 assists and 5 aces.
Vs. Salem International:
Pfeiffer scored 12 of the first 14 points to start the first set, which included back-to-back service aces by Errington. The Tigers answered right back scoring 11 of next 15 points to tie the set 13-13. A kill by Errington ignited a 6-0 Falcon run, giving Pfeiffer a 22-19 lead. Salem Int'l answered and ended the set a 2-0 run taking the first set 31-29.
The Falcons were unable to recover dropping the next two sets 25-16 and 25-13. Pfeiffer struggled to get the offense going hitting -.179 for the match. Charlot recorded a match-high 10 kills and Wilson added 22 assists and four digs. Hope Moua had a team-high 10 digs and Laura Ann Fortner recorded six kills and three total blocks for the Falcons.
The Falcon classic continues tomorrow Pfeiffer opens up with Virginia Wise at 11:00 a.m. and concludes the tournament with a 5:00 p.m. showdown with Slippery Rock.
