MISENHEIMER, N.C. - For the second time in less than two weeks, the Pfeiffer women's soccer team (10-7-1) defeated Converse (9-9-1) as the Falcons recorded a 3-0 victory in the Conference Carolinas Tournament Quarterfinal at N.E. Lefko Field on Tuesday night. Three different Falcons scored on the night as Pfeiffer advances to the semifinal on Friday night.
Freshman Aryana Harvey netted the game winner just before halftime as the freshman took a loose ball and beat the keeper with 35 seconds remaining in the first half. The period would end with Pfeiffer holding a 12-5 lead in shots.
Pfeiffer opened it up in the second half as Gabrielle Ligas notched her second assist of the season, setting up Brae Buster in the 68th minute. Buster would record the assist on Ryanna Hammond's goal in the 83rd minute as the Falcons cruised to victory.
Making her first career start in a conference tournament match, freshman Kaley Hyatt made four saves on the night and earn her fifth shutout of the season.
Pfeiffer held a 21-8 advantage in shots and beat Converse for the 16th time in 17 head-to-head games dating back to 1998.
With the win, Pfeiffer advances to the Conference Tournament Semifinal for the seventh consecutive season. On Friday at 7 p.m., the Falcons will have a rematch with Belmont Abbey. The teams met on Saturday afternoon with the Crusaders coming away with a 2-0 victory. The game will take place on the campus of Limestone College who earned the right to host with a 1-0 win over Southern Wesleyan in the quarterfinals.
