Box Score MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The No. 15 Pfeiffer men's lacrosse team (4-2) suffered its first home loss of the season as they dropped a 16-8 contest to No. 4 Seton Hill (6-0) on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons were led by Ben Austin who finished with two goals and two assists, while senior Cole Sheen added three goals on the day.
The Griffins ran out to an early lead and never looked back. The guests took the first 13 shots of the contest and scored the game's first four goals. At the 7:51 mark of the first quarter, Austin scored a man up goal to stop the momentum but Seton Hall fired right back. The Griffins put up three consecutive goals before Sheen scored with 47 seconds left in the opening period. Seton Hill would close out the frame with a 7-2 advantage.
Back-to-back goals to start the second quarter by Derek Thomas and Austin managed to cut the deficit to 7-4 with 8:58 left in the period. However, the Griffins scored two straight to close out the half with a 9-4 lead.
The Griffins pushed the lead to 11-4 with two quick goals to start the second half. Pfeiffer was able to cut the lead to six on two separate occasions but couldn't get any closer.
Zach Hartmann finished with three goals and Garrett Howell had a goal and three assists for Seton Hill. Zach Rusch added four points on two goals and two assists.
Mike Moorehead suffered the loss in goal for Pfeiffer as he finished with 10 saves. Merritt Bailey added 11 saves in the winning effort for the Griffins.
Seton Hill won 15-of-26 faceoffs on the afternoon and held a 40-36 advantage in shots.
The Falcons look to end their two game skid on Tuesday as they open Conference Carolinas play with a contest at Lees-McRae. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
