Second Half Comeback Sends Mount Olive Past Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Despite running out to a 6-0 lead, the No. 19 Pfeiffer men's lacrosse team (5-4, 1-1 CC) came out on the wrong end of a 10-8 decision against Conference Carolinas foe Mount Olive (8-2, 2-0 CC) on Wednesday night. The No. 11 Trojans outscored Pfeiffer 8-2 in the second half to steal a road victory over the Falcons.

Kyle Enkelmann and Cole Sheen scored twice for Pfeiffer and Derek Thomas had a goal and two assists on the night. Matt Lewis dominated face offs in the contest, winning 17-of-21 draws and came up with seven ground balls.

Cameron LaPorta started the scoring for Pfeiffer at the 12:59 mark of the opening quarter. Pfeiffer would end the opening frame with a 4-0 lead.

Kyle Pauwels and Sheen scored 17 seconds apart in the second quarter to push Pfeiffer's lead to six. The Pfeiffer defense kept Mount Olive off the scoreboard for 28:54 until Matt Shields found the back of the net with 1:06 left in the half. Jesse Mitchell added a goal for UMO with just five seconds in the half.

The Trojans came out firing in the second half, scoring the first five goals of the third quarter in just 8:31 to take a 7-6 lead. Sheen evened the contest at the 6:02 mark of the quarter as the period would end with the game tied at seven.

Thomas scored a beautiful goal as he was knocked to the ground to give the Falcons an 8-7 lead with 9:30 to play. However, the Trojans scored the final three goals of the game, two from the stick of Brett Kingston.

Mount Olive held a 35-24 advantage in shots and Pfeiffer led the ground ball battle by a final count of 33-28.

The Falcons return to action next Saturday when they travel to Emmanuel for a 2 p.m. contest.
