Box Score SAINT LEO, FL- The No. 11 ranked Pfeiffer men's lacrosse team(4-1) dropped a one goal heart breaker to Saint Leo (3-1) 9-8 on Saturday afternoon. Blade Garlow, Kyle Pauwels and Cole Sheen all registered two goals in the loss.
Pfeiffer struck first when Kyle Enkelmann took a pass from Ben Austin and found the back of the net at the 12:40 mark of the first period. The Lions responded with back-to-back scores taking a 2-1 advantage. With 6:14 left in the first Pauwels scored his first goal of the contest to tie it up 2-2. Saint Leo regained the lead 3-2 when Chad Marino scored with 3:14 left in the opening period.
The Lions scored three man up goals to start the second giving the Lions a 6-2 lead. Cole Sheen scored a man-up goal with 35 seconds left in the half cutting the lead to 6-3. Sheen scored again to start the second stanza finding the back of the net off of a Derek Thomas assist. Pfeiffer scored again four minutes later when Thomas scored his first goal of the contest cutting the lead to 6-5 in favor of the Lions. The Lions answered less than a minute later extending the lead back to two goals. Garlow scored his first goal of the game at the six minute mark, but with six second left in the third Dylan Yonts found the back of the net giving the Lions a 8-6 lead.
Just over a minute into the final quarter Garlow scored an unassisted goal cutting the lead back to one. Another Yonts goal put the Lions up two with just under 10 minutes left. With 5:56 Pauwels took a pass from Kyle Enkelmann finding the back of the net to close the gap to 9-8. However, the Falcons comeback bid fell short, as Pfeiffer did not recorded a shot in the last 5:34 minutes of the contest dropping their first game of the campaign.
Yonts had a huge game for the Lions having a hand in seven of Saint Leo's 9 scores, recording five goals and dishing out two assists.
Austin dished out two assists for the Falcons, and Enkelmann had one goal to go along with two helpers for the game.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday, March 12, hosting Seton Hill. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
