MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer women's soccer team (2-2-1, 1-0 CC) won its Conference Carolinas opener in convincing fashion, dispatching of Southern Wesleyan (1-5, 0-2) by a final score of 7-1 on a warm Saturday evening on N.E. Lefko Field. Ryanna Hammond scored her first two career goals and added an assist in the first 25 minutes of the contest for the Falcons.
Aryana Harvey started the goal scoring barrage for the Falcons as the freshman scored off an assist from Dana Keeran in the 16th minute. 11 seconds later, Hammond netted her first of the night to put Pfeiffer up 2-0. In the 22nd minute, senior defender Madeline Gadd scored her first career goal with the assist going to Hammond. Consecutive goals by Hammond and Hailey Havelind gave the Falcons a 5-0 lead going into the break.
In the second half, Kirsten Martin added her first goal of the season to give the Falcons their sixth strike of the game. The six goals scored tonight is the highest total in a match since the Falcons scored 13 against Chowan in October 2013.
Southern Wesleyan notched their lone goal in the 77th minute but the Falcons countered as Marcy Santana found the back of the net for the second time this season.
Kaley Hyatt played the first 45 minutes in net before giving way to Deidre Gilley in the second half. Each keeper registered one save.
For the evening, Pfeiffer held a 35-6 advantage in shots and a 6-2 lead in corner kicks.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Wednesday night as they host Limestone in a pivotal Conference Carolinas contest. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.
