BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Pfeiffer women's soccer team (3-3-1, 2-1 CC) won its first road Conference Carolinas match on Saturday evening, defeating Lees-McRae (2-7, 2-2) 2-1. Kirsten Martin and Macy Rutledge were the goal scorers for the Falcons who beat the Bobcats for the fourth consecutive time.
All the scoring in the contest was done in a 12 minute span in the second half. Kirsten Martin got the scoring started with her second tally of the season in the 60th minute. Ryanna Hammond send a cross into the middle of the box and found Martin who did the rest. In the 70th minute, senior Macy Rutledge split the Bobcat defenders to score her first goal of the season and sixth of her career.
The Bobcats wouldn't give up as Katie Jo Daniel scored in the 72nd minute to cut the lead in half. However, Lees-McRae couldn't find the equalizer as the Falcons came away victorious.
Despite the one goal differential, the Falcons dominated much of play. Pfeiffer held a 17-3 advantage in shots, including an 8-0 tally in the first half. Pfeiffer held Lees-McRae without a shot attempt for the first 68:51 of the contest. Additionally, Pfeiffer held a 5-2 lead in corner kicks.
Alexis Feely made seven saves for the Bobcats in the losing effort. Freshman keeper Kaley Hyatt made one stop to earn her third career win.
Pfeiffer gets back into non-conference play on Wednesday as they travel to local rival Catawba at 7 p.m. The match marks the Falcons final non-conference road match of the season.
