MISENHEIMER, NC – The Pfeiffer University men's lacrosse team (0-2) lost its home opener against Mars Hill, 13-10, Saturday afternoon at NE Leftko Field.

Freshman midfielder Cody Lamond led the Falcons with three goals (eight shots) and a game-high 11 ground balls, winning 18-of-26 face offs. Kyle Barna and Blade Garlow contributed two goals apiece, and Jared Nelson finished with a team-best three assists. Mike Moorehead played all 60 minutes in goal for Pfeiffer and tallied 20 saves.

Six different players scored for Mars Hill, but it was Alex Lipsky and Spencer Andrews who paced the Lions with three goals each as the team found a way to get off 54 shots on the day. Ryan Kearney stood in all 60 minutes in goal and made 16 saves.

Pfeiffer jumped out to a 3-2 lead after the first quarter but was outscored 4-3 in the second frame as the two teams entered intermission at a 6-6 tie. After Mars Hill scored the first two goals of the third quarter to take an 8-6 advantage, the Falcons found the net three consecutive times to secure one-goal lead entering the final 15 minutes. Unfortunately, that's where the Lions would go on to take control, scoring five more times to finish with a 13-10 win.

Though they won several stat categories including ground balls (41), saves (20) and face offs (18), the Falcons were doomed by 22 turnovers to just nine forced.

Pfeiffer will look for its first victory of the 2017 campaign when it travels to Catawba this Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 4 p.m.
