Lamond Breaks Ground Ball Record and Nelson Ties Assist Mark as Falcons Thrash Emmanuel

Box Score

Jeremy Zalacca - Director of Athletic Communications

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - On senior day in the village, it was a pair of freshman that had record-breaking performances as the Pfeiffer men's lacrosse team (6-6, 3-2 CC) improved to .500 with a 20-7 thrashing of Emmanuel (1-10, 0-5 CC) on Saturday night. Jared Nelson tied the record for most assists in a game with nine helpers and fellow freshman Cody Lamond broke the single season record for ground balls which stood since 2001.

CJ Lefebvre recorded 106 ground balls for the '01 Falcons and Lamond entered tonight's game with 104. Lamond would break the record in the second quarter and finished the evening with 10 ground balls.

Nelson's nine assists match Kevin Iwanusa's total from a single game during the 1997 season. Nelson had four helpers in the first half and added five more in the second half, boosting his season total to 36 which ranks fifth all time.

Kyle Barna scored six goals for the Falcons and Myles Dalton-Steinhart added his first career hat trick. Blade Garlow also netted three goals and had three assists on the night, while Ryan Cummings scored four times.

Emmanuel scored the first two goals of the night before Pfeiffer got started. With 54 seconds in the first quarter, Garlow started the scoring barrage that saw Pfeiffer score 10 of the game's next 11 goals.

Mike Moorehead garnered his 19th career victory, stopping 8 shots in the first three quarters. Jacob Michel took over and made six saves in the final 14:16.

Lamond wont 18-of-27 face offs tonight and Michael Turner went 3-for-3. Pfeiffer held a 49-32 advantage in shots and the 20 goals scored is their second highest total of the season. The Falcons went 3-for-6 on the man advantage.

Prior to tonight's contest, the Falcons honored the contributions of its senior class. Moorehead, Dalton-Steinhart, Justin Oberg, Dillon Malloy and Kevin Kerrick were all honored in the pregame festivities.

Pfeiffer closes out the home portion of its regular season schedule on Tuesday night as they host Methodist at 7 p.m.
