MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - In a matchup of top-15 teams, the No. 13 Pfeiffer men's lacrosse team (9-2, 4-0 CC) defeated No. 11 Mount Olive (9-3, 3-1) by a final score of 15-12 on Wednesday afternoon. The win keeps the Falcons unbeaten in conference play and sets up a showdown with Limestone on April 18. The game will be played at NE Lefko Field and, if the two team's remain undefeated in conference play, the winner will claim the regular season championship.
Derek Thomas scored all three of his goals in the first half and Pfeiffer exploded for seven second quarter goals to pull away from the Trojans. Cole Sheen also added three first half scores and Kyle Pauwels had one goal and two assists in the first 30 minutes.
Pfeiffer took an 11-6 lead into the break, but the hosts fought back. Mount Olive outscored Pfeiffer 3-1 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 12-9. However, fourth quarter scores from Tucker Hammock, Mike Triolo and Cole Paciejewski sealed the crucial victory.
For the game, Eddie Renaud finished with three goals and one assist. Ben Austin added three helpers and Hammock had two goals.
Pfeiffer has now won five straight and hasn't lost since March 7. Each of Pfeiffer's two losses on the year have come by one goal against top-10 opponents. The Falcons look to stay hot when they travel to rival Catawba a week from today at 7 p.m.
